Endolift® vs. facelift -
Which method is the better choice?

The most important facts in brief:

  • Effective skin tightening without surgery: The Endolift® uses a 1470 nanometre laser to tighten targeted tissue, stimulate collagen and elastin and reduce small fat deposits - without incisions or long downtimes.
  • Comparison with facelift: While a facelift lasts 8-12 years and requires a longer recovery time, the Endolift® offers a gentle alternative with a shelf life of 2-3 years and a short recovery time of only 3-4 days.
  • Costs & application: The treatment costs from €990 and is suitable for the face, jawline, cheeks, neck and body areas such as the upper arms or stomach. It can be combined with other procedures such as laser, microneedling or Botox.® can be combined.

What is the Endolift®?

The Endolift® is a minimally invasive method for skin tightening (Further tightening operations), which has become very popular in recent years. Originally developed in Italy, the procedure uses a special laser with a wavelength of 1470 nanometres to specifically heat the tissue under the skin. This leads to an immediate shrinkage of the skin and a long-term stimulation of collagen and elastin production.

Dr Niklas Noack emphasises that the Endolift® is not a completely new technique, but has become increasingly popular in recent years, particularly in Europe. The method was initially widely used in Asia, South America and Turkey before it became established on the European market. Thanks to a gentle treatment method with minimal downtime, the Endolift® is suitable for a wide range of patients who are looking to improve their skin structure without having to undergo a surgical procedure.

How does the Endolift® work?

With Endolift®, an extremely thin fibreglass fibre is inserted directly under the skin. There it releases targeted laser energy, which reduces fat cells, tightens the tissue and improves skin quality.

Dr Noack explains that the laser works with a wavelength of 1470 nanometres, a proven technology that is also used in other medical fields such as dermatology and ENT medicine. The treatment is carried out using a hair-thin probe that is inserted directly under the skin. These probes are so thin that they are sometimes finer than a hair. In addition to tightening tissue and reducing fat, the targeted heating also stimulates collagen production by releasing so-called heat-shock proteins.

Procedure of the treatment:

  1. Preparation:
The area to be treated is cleaned and anaesthetised with a mild local anaesthetic.
  2. Use of the laser fibre:
A hair-thin probe is inserted under the skin and emits targeted heat impulses.
  3. Tissue reaction:
The laser light causes the connective tissue to shrink, can dissolve fatty tissue and stimulates collagen production.
  4. Recreation:
Patients can usually return to their normal activities after a few days.

The treatment takes between 30 and 90 minutes, depending on the region. Immediately after the procedure, an initial tightening effect is often visible, which intensifies over the next few months.

Dr Noack emphasises that the Endolift® is not only suitable for the face, but can also be used on other parts of the body, for example to tighten the upper arms (Upper arm lift), the thigh (Thigh lift) or the abdomen (Abdominoplasty). However, it shows excellent results particularly in the area of the jawline, cheeks and neck. Smaller fat deposits can also be reduced in a targeted manner, resulting in a more defined facial contour.

Endolift® or facelift - which is better?

It is important to know that an Endolift treatment cannot replace a facelift and a direct comparison is hardly possible. Both methods have their areas of application and indications, which should be taken into account depending on the skin condition and desired result:
CriterionEndolift®Facelift
InvasivenessMinimally invasive (laser under the skin)Surgical procedure with skin incision
Recovery time3-4 days slight swelling3-4 weeks healing time
PainLow, light local anaesthesia possibleModerate to severe, general anaesthesia required
Durability2-3 years8-12 years
EffectSkin tightening and slight fat reductionStrong skin tightening, tissue repositioning and volume adjustment
CostsFrom approx. 990 €From approx. 12,000 €

Dr Noack emphasises that a facelift is often the more sustainable and sensible solution for patients with severely sagging skin and sagging facial tissue, while the Endolift® is particularly suitable for younger people or those who want skin tightening without surgery. The extent of the tightening effect of the Endolift can vary. The procedure can also be repeated at regular intervals to maintain the effect in the long term.

Who is the Endolift® suitable for?

The Endolift® is ideal for people who:

  • Want a gentle skin tightening without surgery.
  • want to treat early signs of sagging skin.
  • want to reduce fat deposits on the chin, neck or cheeks.
  • Do not want to take a long recovery time.
  • would like to try out an alternative method to a facelift before deciding in favour of surgery.

A facelift, on the other hand, is more suitable for people with:

  • Severely sagging skin and noticeable wrinkles.
  • Deep tissue displacements in the face.
  • The willingness to go through a longer healing phase.
  • Higher expectations of a lasting, natural result.

Some patients initially opt for an Endolift® as they are not or not yet considering a more complex surgical procedure. If the desired result is not sufficient, a surgical facelift can be considered later.

Costs and aftercare

The cost of an Endolift® starts at around €990, depending on the area treated and the individual skin condition. Compared to a facelift, the procedure is certainly significantly cheaper and involves fewer risks, but a direct comparison is difficult as the treatment options are conceptually completely different.

Dr Noack recommends a comprehensive consultation before the treatment to clarify the individual options. After the procedure, slight redness or swelling may occur, but this will subside within a few days. The final result develops over a period of three to four months, as collagen and elastin production in the skin is stimulated in the long term.

Conclusion: When is an Endolift® worthwhile?

The Endolift® is an excellent alternative for people looking for an effective but non-invasive method of skin tightening. Whilst it is not a complete replacement for a facelift, it can provide impressive results for many patients at different stages of skin ageing. However, those looking for a significant but equally natural rejuvenation with long-lasting effects should consider a facelift.

The ability to combine the Endolift® with other procedures is particularly noteworthy. Combined treatment can be carried out as an individualised treatment protocol with Hyaluronic acid fillers or Botox® bring about additional improvements in skin structure and tension. This allows an individually tailored anti-ageing programme to be created that is tailored to the patient's needs and can also have a preventative effect.
