The lower third of the face, particularly the chin line, and the neck are treated in combination with increasing age. This is because the sagging soft tissue in the cheeks slides over the jawline and appears to form a single unit with the sagging neck tissue. This then manifests itself in a worsened chin contour, especially when viewed from the side. A harmonious, natural and complete result can only be achieved if both parts are treated together.

Deep-plane neck lift: complete rejuvenation and contour improvement of the neck and chin line (jawline)

The term deep-plane neck lift has the same background as the deep-plane facelift: deep structures of the neck tissue beneath the skin are also treated. As the neck changes with age, several parameters interact (see illustration): The sagging neck skin, the cords of the platysma muscle, the fatty tissue under the chin, the so-called digastric muscle and the submandibular gland.

Only by addressing all of these areas during a deep-plane neck lift can a significant and lasting improvement in the chin line and neck contour be achieved.

In some situations, an incision below the chin of approx. 4.5 cm may be sufficient to achieve a good result. In other cases, e.g. severe skin sagging or in combination with a facelift, incisions are made in the hairline behind the ear, which are later very inconspicuous.

Combination with a lower cheek lift: a holistic approach for harmonious results

In selected cases, it may be possible to combine the neck lift with a lower cheek lift (a "small" facelift of the lower third of the face). This offers a comprehensive rejuvenation of the neck and jawline (jawline) and ensures a more harmonious appearance.
